Lex Lumina Wins “Impact Case of the Year” Award from Managing IP
April 25, 2025 - We are proud to announce that Lex Lumina wasn honored at the 20th Annual Managing IP Awards held last night in New York City. The event brought together leading intellectual property professionals from across the Americas to celebrate exceptional achievements in the field. Lex Lumina received an “Impact Case of the Year” award for its landmark 2024 victory in LKQ Corp v. GM Global Tech, argued by partner Mark Lemley before the en banc Federal Circuit.
On May 21, 2024, the court unanimously agreed with LKQ’s position, overturning over 40 years of precedent regarding the longstanding test for assessing nonobviousness of design patents. The court remanded the case for reconsideration by a U.S. Patent Office tribunal. The decision set a new standard for design patent litigation nationwide in addition to being a major win for our client, LKQ Corporation.
Lex Lumina’s Mark Lemley and Mark McKenna led the appeal, with Irwin IP as co-counsel. Read the Court’s decision here. For more information on the 2025 Managing IP Awards, visit: https://www.managingip.com/managing-ip-awards-americas-2025-winners-hub.
